Characteristics

• Brilliance and fire: Moissanite has a higher refractive index (2.65–2.69) than diamond, which gives it a superior brilliance and "fire" (color dispersion). This produces a more colorful and intense sparkle.
• Hardness: On the Mohs scale, which measures mineral hardness, moissanite is rated between 9.25 and 9.5, making it the second-hardest gemstone after diamond (10). Its high durability makes it suitable for daily wear.
• Color: Lab-grown moissanite can be produced to be colorless or near-colorless (equivalent to D-F and G-I color grades for diamonds). Natural versions, when found, often have yellowish or greenish tones.
• Sustainability: Because it is grown in a laboratory, moissanite has a significantly smaller environmental impact than mined gemstones.
